Ever wanted a keyboard that could deliver something other than the same old layout with uninteresting keys. Well, look no further as Microsoft may just have the answer for you. As you can already tell, Microsoft has specifically designed this keyboard for its Windows XP: Media Center Edition application. According to Microsoft, you can "effortlessly control all kinds of digital entertainment.  Launch digital media, surf the Web, watch movies, and send instant messages from up to 30 feet away with this wireless keyboard, mouse, and remote."

Throughout the keyboard, you will notice numerous keys for Microsoft’s Media Center functionality. Similar to today’s stylish standards, the keys are backlit to make them viewable under dim lighting conditions. Furthermore, there’s also a "Windows" key that will launch the exclusive features for the Media Center Edition. A unique concept, nonetheless…

This is not the only thing this keyboard can do. What you’ll get is a 3-in-1 piece that includes a keyboard in addition to integrated mouse and remote control. Microsoft has even implemented a key lock to prevent it from accidentally powering on.

This keyboard is not yet available in the market; Microsoft has set the launch date for September. Unfortunately, the price is unknown as well.

Initial Thoughts: It’s not surprising that Microsoft will soon release a product that’s designed exclusively for one of its other products, especially the Media Center Edition. The concept is attractive with eye-catching integration. Of course, this keyboard is not designed for everyone. Unless you have a Media Center PC, there shouldn’t be any reason for picking this keyboard, as you’ll more than likely not use majority of the features of the keyboard. Considering the general layout and feature set, we are expecting a hefty price tag for this product, which even the serious Media Center users would have to think about before making up their mind. Bottom line: it’s a product designed specifically for an exclusive product with a possible steep price tag.
