Samsung has an entire product line devoted to MP3 players of all sorts. Logically, they offer flash as well as hard drive players to cater to various markets. The thing about Samsung players is that they really don’t differ from one model to another. It appears to be that Samsung has managed to succeed (we use that term loosely) with a design and other than a few changes here and there, the basic design is the same. Although the segment of innovation can be observed throughout its players, the uniqueness of each product is missing.

However, that’s about the change with Samsung’s latest YH-925GS Photo MP3 player. Similar to Apple’s iPod Photo offering, the YH-925GS offers the exact same functionality to those interested in alternatives. Needless to say, Samsung is one of the first companies to bring a Photo MP3 player after Apple.

From the exterior, the YH-925GS has a professional color scheme with a whitish shade all around. Unlike a joystick, which is present on various Samsung players, this particular model comes with a control pad. The functionality is basically the same with the control pad as well; you press the designated areas of the control pad to navigate through the menu. The top area of the YH-925GS has the necessary headphones jack while the left side is equipped with the essential skip, play/pause and other such buttons.

The YH-925GS avails an 8-hour battery life, and although Samsung claims this be higher than what the competition proposes, Apple’s iPod Photo is capable of handling 15-hours of uptime, though theoretically. This player is available in 20GB capacity with a bright screen, which truly brings out impressive results when viewing photos.

According to Samsung, the YH-925GS handles JPEG photo files and MP3 and WMA audio formats. Furthermore, Samsung has added the support for DRM protected music files – a nice touch all around.

The standard package includes a belt clip, a pair of earphones, USB 2.0 cable, In-Line encoding wire, install disk and a user’s manual.

The product is currently available for purchase at various retailers for $269.99 on average.
