Continuing with its tradition to bring innovative products, iRiver is currently working on finalizing and releasing another addition to its family of products: the U10 series. Although the company has not revealed much information at this point, we do know that U10 will be available in 512MB and 1GB versions, costing $199.99 and $249.99, respectively. According to iRiver, "The remarkable new iRiver U10 features an eye-catching, direct-click interface that makes it easy to fly through your media collection and find the right song, video, photo or game. Plus, the iRiver U10 works with both subscription and pay-per-song music services, so millions of songs are available to you." The exterior of the product appears stunning, which is standard with numerous iRiver products. The front of the player has absolutely no navigational buttons, thereby clearing the overall appearance of the product and giving it a stylish appeal. The headphones jack is situated on the left side while the necessary buttons are located throughout the border of the player. Perhaps the most exciting feature of the U10 series is the bright screen, which gives it a media player-like emergence. Initial Thoughts: Without a list of features or specifications, its difficult to comment much on the preliminary functionality and value of the product, but thus far, the U10 series is one of its kind that moves one step closer to portable multimedia centers. In regards to cost per MB, the prices are decently elevated, but considering that this will be an exciting concept in the portable audio player market, they are not too terrible. Of course, as competition goes up, prices will fall considerably.
