(First Look) - In an apparent battle to release the world’s smallest consumer electronics devices, Klipsch has announced the world’s smallest 5.1 surround sound speaker system, the Quintet III.

The Quintet III speaker system consists of four miniature satellites and a low-profile center channel. Each satellite is magnetically shielded and employs .75" aluminum diaphragm tweeter. In addition, Klipsch has packed an exclusive MicroTractrix Horn for crisp and precise audio reproduction, according to company documents.

The pedestal on each satellite has a wall/shelf mount that should make it easy to put speakers on respective places without tinkering too much.

The Quintet III sports an attractive design with black and gray color outlines. In addition, the speaker system promises a world full of music with rich and fulfilling music reproduction.

The Klipsch Quintet III is available for $499 at retail stores.

Initial Thoughts: From what Klipsch states, this is their most successful product to date in terms of overall sales. The overall speaker set appears to be admirable as far as size, overall appeal and specifications are concerned. However, with size reduction, you have to wonder how Klipsch hopes to compensate for sound from other speaker units that are double or triple the size of Quintet III. Furthermore, the price tag is far too steep. Klipsch has a history of producing quality products, and we certainly hope the company delivers this time, but a steep price tag and lackluster performance, if true, could be dreadful.
