(First Look) - Palm is back with yet another handheld device that will make you a firm believer in portable computing. The Palm Z22 is based on the Palm OS Garnet 5.4 with 32MB of storage capacity, 200MHz of processor clock speed, 160x160 color screen display, long life rechargeable battery, and power and synchronization adapters. The Palm Z22 also features an Infrared port, an on/off button, a 5-way navigational joystick and a plethora of standard buttons that you would expect on any handheld. The exterior of the device appears to be strikingly attractive with everything laid out and presented well. In addition to that, the packaging of the device and the included accessories are common to what Palm includes in its other handheld devices. With that said, the MSRP of the Palm Z22 handheld is $99.99. Initial Thoughts: Perhaps the most attractive aspect of the Palm Z22 handheld is its feasible price that just might be a perfect match for someone who’s looking to organize in an affordable package. Not to mention, if the Z22 performs well, this could very well be the perfect gift for the gadget lover in your family. Price aside, Palm generally have solid products with a plethora of features to satisfy even the most demanding user, but unfortunately, the multimedia capabilities on this device are limited (due to low onboard storage capacity). Moreover, the screen resolution is not as crisp compared to other handheld devices, which is somewhat understandable considering that this device is made for the budget conscious user rather than a mobile enthusiast, but it still would’ve been a nice incentive. Other than that, the Palm Z22 is a basic handheld unit that’s designed to get the newcomer into the world of portable computing, and for that, it may very well be the perfect entry level handheld for a good majority of you.
