The Samsung SGH-e635 is one of the new entrants in the electronics maker’s product line. According to Samsung, the SGH-e635 packs in all the features you want, plus more to sweeten the deal. As the title suggests, the phone is based on a slider design. The e635 also has a speakerphone, multimedia messaging, dynamic memory (you decide how best to use the memory in your phone), an internal antenna, a digital camera and a host of other features that are standard with any phone.

The e635 only weighs 3.03oz and features about 4.5 hours of talk time and 130 hours of standby time. Moreover, Samsung’s new phone is based on the GSM wireless protocol (service provider – T-Mobile), comes in either silver or black, has a 65K, 128x160 color screen for the best possible image quality in a phone this size.

The average retail price of Samsung’s SGH-e635 is $149.99.

Initial Thoughts: Even though opting for a particular cell phone is a very subjective choice, the e635 has the general design and features down to make it a competitive addition in the market. Whether you like the "new" design or not is up to you. We, however, would like to discuss the talk time. Even though Samsung states the talk time to be 4.5 hours, it might not be correct. Since the talk time depends on personal usage pattern, there’s no easy way to predict a guaranteed talk time. 4.5 hours is Samsung’s estimate, and it could inflate (or deflate) depending on connectivity, signal strength, features, backlit option, ringtone mode and a plethora of other things. Unfortunately, Samsung doesn’t tell you how it arrived at 4.5 hours, but we expect this to be the average, as unpredictable as it might be. In terms of pricing, the e635 follows the same pattern as any new cell phone - it costs quite a bit right after it’s launched, though it’s still cheaper than the standard norm. If you wait a few months or shop around for deals, you may very well find this unit at a significantly lower price than what it’s at today.
