Google, Inc., one of the top most search engines, informed that it has fixed the flaw that was discovered by Rice University’s researchers.

The flaw, if left unfixed, would’ve allowed hackers to gain access to the user’s computer and trick the desktop search feature to retrieve information from another website instead of the local hard disk drive.

"We were made aware of this vulnerability with the Google Desktop Search software and have since fixed the problem so that all current and future users are secure," said Google in a statement.

Rice University Assistant Professor and his two graduate students first discovered the flaw, according to a story by The New York Times.

Google is currently facing tremendous competition from Microsoft and Yahoo, the company’s tier one competitors.
