Google, Inc., one of the Internet’s most visited search engines, has launched its very own instant messaging client, allowing users to talk to others online. Rumors of Google Talk, Google’s IM client, started appearing a little while ago with The New York Times and LA Times. Google hopes to compete against the more established brands such as instant messaging clients from MSN, Yahoo and AOL. Even though the applications are offered for free, IM clients are used by the aforementioned companies to market new services and increase traffic to their site, in return demanding high prices for online advertisements. Google confirmed that Google Talk could work with IM clients with open networks. Instant messaging isn’t the only thing Google has introduced in Google Talk. It’s IM application features voice messaging, a service similar to Skype, in partnership with Earthlink. Google will use Earthlink’s Vling voice-and-messaging network to deliver Skype-like functionality. According to Georges Harik, Director, Product Development, Google, the company is hoping to work on partnerships with other IM networks for a symbiotic relationship. Google Talk is available for download immediately.
