Late last week customers noticed that Apple’s online store did not listed its usual 1.8GHz single-chip Macintosh system, and the company had removed the listing without justifying its reasoning behind it. Today, however, Apple confirmed its actions to C|NET’s News.com. Apple commented, "The 1.8 GHz Power Mac G5 is no longer available at the online Apple Store but is available in other channels while supplies last. " (All Quotes: C|NET News.com) Apple said it would not offer single-chip Macintosh systems for the time being. "The Power Mac G5 line is now all dual processor and delivers the ultimate in performance for our most advanced customers." The company further added that those on a budget or looking for a single-chip system could look at its iMac solutions. The official statement released by Apple read, "…the new iMac G5 is a very popular solution." Earlier in April, when Apple added dual-chip offerings to its product line, the company stated that it would continue to offer its single-chip solution.
