Yahoo introduced a new version of its messenger service, which has now gotten up to version 7.0, last week with VoIP integration. The new version is still in Beta stage, but it lets users talk to buddies directly from their computer. Users will still be able to text message while on the phone. According to Yahoo, both users will be required to have the latest 7.0 in order to take advantage of its VoIP service. Yahoo said its users wont be able to call a traditional landline phone, but its VoIP service will be similar to the traditional phone companies, as Yahoo will offer voicemail functionality as well. Yahoo said users would also be able to choose the way they want to be contacted by others. They can choose from regular text messages, Internet phone calls, text messages on cell phones or via e-mail. Additional Yahoo features are either built-in or connected via the messenger for easy access. Some of these features include photo sharing capabilities, personal profiles, and free blogging tools.
