Yahoo today made the announcement to launch its Beta version of Yahoo messenger that supports VoIP and Yahoo 360, which is the company’s social network. In addition to VoIP and Yahoo 360 support, the company will also integrate features to send SMS messages, sharing of photos online and posting content onto the blog almost instantly. Yahoo said all of its Yahoo Messenger users (approximately 65 million) will be updated with the new Beta, which will make the application more useful and efficient. Yahoo said it’s particularly interested in its VoIP integration this time around. With VoIP making waves recently, said one of the world’s widely visited websites, it only makes sense to focus on upcoming ways of communication. It said Yahoo messenger Beta has a click-to-call button right in the center for convenience. Other options related to VoIP include voicemail functionality and voice quality optimizations based on Internet speed. According to online reports, Yahoo may have decided to jump onboard so quickly because of AOL’s recent announcement of updating its AOL Instant Messenger with similar services. Additionally, the reports indicated that it’s a good way for Yahoo to boost in-network usage with its loyal user base. Yahoo’s executives claimed that the company is trying to remove roadblocks that may hinder communication in one way or another. As an example, Yahoo has introduced an address book, which will keep track of contact information amongst Yahoo users. The users will be able to synchronize their address books with others online. Yahoo has also incorporated a new tool that will let users post information directly to their blogs from within the messenger. According to Yahoo, these are all the ways of removing roadblocks in communication technologies.
