Advanced Micro Devices on Monday announced two new mobile processors aimed at ultra portable notebooks in hopes of competing against Intel’s Pentium M chips.

The two chips, MT-37 and MT-40, are part of the chipmaker’s 64-bit Turion 64 lineup. According to AMD, both chips consume less than 25W of power, but they are slower than their "ML" counterparts. The ML chips consume approximately 35W of power.

AMD said notebooks based on the two processors should be available immediately. The first in line of its launch partners include VoodooPC, maker of high-end gaming notebooks with customized designs.

VoodooPC confirmed that AMD’s MT-37 and MT-40 will be available in a:538 and a:228 models from the company’s product line.

"The match-up of our exclusive design capability and AMD’s latest 64-bit mobile technology gives us an edge to deliver highly mobile gaming performance, quiet operation and ultimate style," said Rahul Sood, President & Chief Technology Officer, VoodooPC in a statement.

MT-37 and MT-40 cost $268 and $359 in 1,000 quantities, respectively.
