Intel Corp. yesterday unveiled a second dual-core microprocessor and a new core logic chipset. The dual-core Pentium D microprocessor supports two pieces of silicon on the same chip, thereby doubling the processing speed. The new chip is followed by Intel’s Pentium Extreme Edition processor, which was launched earlier this year. Intel’s new chipset, 945G Express, is a business solution that supports advanced security, management, and collaboration technologies including Intel Active Management Technology or AMT. AMT will allow technical personnel to directly install security patches and diagnose problems on networked systems even if they are un-operational at the time. Intel said its 945G Express chipset fully supports the new Intel Pentium 4 microprocessor.
