Microsoft Corp., world’s largest software maker and an Xbox creator, finally debuted its Xbox 360 gaming console on a special half-hour show on MTV television network. This was an exclusive presentation on MTV, something that Microsoft had been promoting for sometime now. Although the company did not reveal many technical details about the console, it did reveal the general features that majority of its customers would be interested in. Dan Hsu, Editor, Electronic Gaming Magazine said, "What people are going to be excited about is how powerful the machine is — meaning the graphics are sharper. He further commented that "the most important thing you want to see out of your new gaming system is that it plays great games." (ABC News) According to Microsoft, Xbox 360 is not just a gaming machine, but also the "next digital hub". Xbox 360 will support DVD playback, storing and sharing of music and video files, Internet access and e-mail, and online gameplay. The company said the backend of the Xbox 360 is based on Media Center-like software. The world’s largest software maker said its plans are to replace digital home entertainment system with Xbox 360 as a basic setup that does everything right out of the box. Few industry analysts predicted that Microsoft make take up market share from Sony and its PlayStation 3 console, which will rival Xbox 360. Sony has plans to reveal details about PS3 at E3, which is one of the world’s largest gaming expos. Sony has no plans to make its PS3 available until sometime next year, but some speculative reports contrast to Sony’s original comments.
