Microsoft Corp., world’s largest software maker, has made a decision to bring on Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of the popular Final Fantasy series, to work on two role-playing games (otherwise known as RPGs) for its next generation of gaming console, Xbox 2.

The original Xbox was never exactly a success in Japan due to the lack of RPGs for the Xbox and according to Microsoft; they don’t want to make the same mistake again, hence the decision to partner with Sakaguchi.

Sakaguchi will work in his studio, Mistwalker, which will be funded by Microsoft. The software giant also revealed that it has not purchased the creator’s studio; instead it will only help fund it.

"We’re very excited to have a developer of his stature, a true rock star in the industry," said Peter Moore, Corporate Vice President, Worldwide Xbox Marketing and Publishing (Original quote by Reuters).

Microsoft did not reveal further details on the two titles or its upcoming Xbox 2, but industry analysts predict information to appear at E3 Gaming Expo in May at Los Angeles, California convention center and at Tokyo’s Game Show in September.
