Sony Corp. is finally ready to announce its PSP portable gaming console to the U.S. market. The company initially announced the portable gaming console in Japan where it was so well received that Sony had a troubling time meeting the customer demand. In order to cope with the U.S. market, Sony said it is prepared to launch the PSP with one million units. Industry analysts, Sony as well as its retail partners Best Buy and Circuit City speculates to sell their entire inventory within the first few days, if not on the first day alone. Best Buy expects long lines outside its retail stores before the store opens, which is why the company has made the decision to open all its stores two hours prior to its regular timings. Other retailers like Wal-Mart tried a different approach to capitalize on PSP’s anticipation. The company offered its customers the option to pre-order units way ahead of the initial launch date. According to Wal-Mart, its strategy worked quite well. Best Buy and Circuit City did not offer such a feature, as they may try to retail PSP with an accessories pack for additional sales revenue. The special accessories package will contain Spider-Man 2 (movie) on UMD as well as other things to make the entire packaged deal a bit more fruitful. UMD is a proprietary Sony technology that is specifically developed for PSP. The PSP currently supports both video and audio playback capabilities in addition to gaming. The PSP will retail around $250.00, but the "special edition" with an accessories pack may very well cost higher than the aforementioned price.
