Continued...

Continuing with a series of excellent upgrades, the iPod Touch will also let you output video and view it on your TV. Unfortunately, though, the Touch doesn't work as a portable storage device, which might be a good thing in this case, considering the limited 8GB and 16GB capacities for the two iPod Touch versions. The Touch also doesn't have a FM tuner and voice recording. Lack of both of these features is valid across all iPod music players. Similarly, the audio and video quality is decent, nothing earth shattering. Again, this is also the case with other iPods as well.

It's evident that Apple's iPod series continues to be an iconic product with little improvement in audio quality, despite a rocking interface. According to Apple, the battery life is expected to last 22 hours for audio and 5 hours for video. The Touch met these numbers in our lab tests. While 22 hours is great for a music player, we believe 5 hours is somewhat limiting for a video player.

We are also disappointed with the on board storage capacity capped at 8GB and 16GB. Needless to say, you won't be able to load the device with tens of movies and thousands of songs. Furthermore, Apple's iPod Touch doesn't come with a storage expansion slot that users can use to increase the capacity. What's up with that? Other than that, the only thing we would prefer the Touch to have is Flash support for Safari. That was also missing, and it would be great to have.

All in all, Apple's iPhone seems to be a much better device compared to the Touch, but obviously, the Touch is designed to replace the iPhone as a dedicated music player. It continues to be an iconic device that's going to crush the competition and marks another win for Apple. But it has its quirks. Plus, the $399 price tag for the 16GB is steep. It's a great, industry changing device with noticeable drawbacks.
