Ever since Bluetooth starting gaining popularity, it was only a matter of time before innovative and useful products started appearing on shelves that took advantage of the standard’s wireless options. Though not innovating in most cases, but perhaps the most useful lineup of products that take advantage of Bluetooth are wireless headsets for mobile phones with built in support. Over the course of past year or so, we have seen numerous companies emerge in the market with Bluetooth headsets, which only goes on to show that they are not as cost centric for the manufacturer as some of the other products are. A once immature standard has now become the norm in the industry.

Since Bluetooth headsets are wireless, obviously, there are quite a few product aspects that manufacturers must keep in mind in order to succeed in this area. First and foremost, the price must be reasonable unless you truly have a number one product by innovation and overall quality. Secondly, the product must be comfortable for the end user. Thirdly, the overall audio quality must be crisp and clear throughout the process. And finally, the last thing for manufacturers to keep in mind is to have a professional looking product with a smooth design, long battery life, clearly labeled buttons, and the remaining final touches that makes a product just an all rounder in its category.

After testing quite a few headsets at CES this year and in our labs, one of our favorites is the Cardo Wireless Scala-500. Though it was not the most affordable headset in the market back when we tested it in December of 2004, the company had integrated just about everything one might need in a headset.

In this evaluation, we will take a look at Bluetake’s recently introduced BT400 G5 Bluetooth capable headset. It would be obvious for us to hold Bluetake’s products to above standard status, since Bluetake has always been known to enhance and refine wireless standards. In fact, many of their products are based around the Bluetooth standard. Although we consider the Scala-500 headset to be in a completely different class than Bluetake’s BT400 G5, we will still hold the BT400 up to its standards. Does the BT400 have what it takes to be considered one of the best in the market? Read on and find out…
