Last week, we reviewed Grado’s RS1 pair of headphones, which was the most expensive pair we’ve ever tested. Not only that, but it’s one of the most expensive pairs in the market currently. Although the RS1 had handcrafted mahogany wooden chamber, leather headband and excellent audio quality, we determined the price tag to be too much at $695.00 for it to be a reasonable pair for anyone but a professional. Even the audiophiles will find the price tag to be too much to fulfill their obsession with high quality audio. Today we have Grado RS1’s younger sibling, the RS2. The RS2 has nothing-extra going for it. As you can imagine, the frequency specifications are a bit on the loose side, but the audio quality is almost exactly the same. The only difference we noticed with audio was slight echoing with certain audio samples, but unless you are a professional musician where it’s critical for you to get every aspect of the audio right, the echoing isn’t a nuisance, especially if it saves you $200.00. At $495.00, we don’t consider the RS2 to be reasonable either, but it’s at an average price range of most high-end earphones and headphones, so it’s somewhat accepted. Unless you truly love your music and can’t accept anything but the best, Grado’s RS2 should suffice.
