Continued...

We have taken an in-depth look at Kensington’s Stereo Dock for iPod, and thus recommend anyone interested in either of these products to read our previously conducted review first.

There aren’t too many differences in the product design, as suggested earlier; however, the dock now contains S-Video and A/V Out ports, which were duly missing from the Stereo version. In addition, the remote is slightly different from the previous version, but unfortunately, it isn’t the smoothest device in the package. Other than the standard buttons (play, pause, skip forward/backward and volume up/down), there are three additional buttons that are located at the top of the device. While you will certainly feel the buttons click, the top three buttons seem too delicate for consistent use. Kensington could’ve certainly improved on that.

Connecting the Entertainment Dock is as simple as it can be, thanks to a single wire.

In our performance tests, the audio quality remained consistent with that of its earlier version, and the video quality is one of the best. There were no interruptions or connection loses, though you will have to use the iPod as a visual aid when flipping through shows, as the TV displayed a blank screen. The remote control worked perfectly as well, albeit we could only get it to work within a 40ft. radius (as opposed to the intended 50ft.).

For the price of $74.99, it’s clearly a better deal than the Stereo Dock considering it supports both audio and video and performs excellently. It isn’t the most affordable dock in the market, but if quality is what you value, and you are seeking dual operations from a single dock, Kensington’s Entertainment Dock 500 would be a nearly perfect accessory.
