A few weeks ago, we had the opportunity to evaluate two of Samsung’s portable audio players that competed against Apple’s iPod Shuffle rather well. Without repeating the same flaws in the iPod Shuffle, all we want to say is that the lack of screen in Shuffle’s case proves to be beneficial to its competition. And knowing that Samsung integrates bright screens in its MP3 players, let’s just say that it gives Samsung an edge over Shuffle for sure.

That’s only the exterior though. One of the most critical things to keep in mind when shopping for a portable audio player is the actual sound quality. The screen size, brightness and features won’t make any difference if the sound quality fails to deliver. Ultimately, that’s what counts… From experience, we know iPod Shuffle is fierce against the opposition with audio quality. Despite the lack of screen, which yields to troubling time when navigating through the menu and options, iPod Shuffle continues the tradition of solid sound quality just like its gigantic iPod counterparts.

What we have today is Samsung’s YP-MT6V portable audio player that, just like the Shuffle, is based on flash memory and unlike the Shuffle, has a bright screen. It has 42 hours of battery life with a single AA battery, ID3 tag display functionality and built-in FM tuner with recording capabilities. Furthermore, it is based of off USB 2.0 standard for blazing fast transfer speeds in addition to more than a decent number of equalizer options to truly tune particular genres of music.

Just because it packs in so many features doesn’t mean it’s perfect. Want to know what we didn’t like about the YP-MT6V, read our review to find out
