Product Analysis Continued...

Philips HDD1630 is thin at 2.11x3.39x0.64" and lightweight at 0.087g, thereby making it a pleasure to use.

Another thing that has us impressed is the white backlight. The controls are touch sensitive and light up accordingly. For instance, as you tap on the forward and backward controls, they will light up momentarily. If you slide your finger in an up/down motion, the backlight will shine consequently, resulting in a great visual and more than enough light to navigate in dark conditions.

There are two serious drawbacks we noticed with the MP3 player. Since the device is black and glossy, it’s prone to smudges. Unfortunately, that’s a setback for a number of otherwise excellent products. If you want a more modern gadget with glossy exterior, smudges are something you will have to deal with. Quite honestly, wiping off finger oil every time you use the player gets tiring after a while. If you are willing to deal with smudges, it might not be such a problem for you. The second issue we had with Philips GoGear HDD1630 is related to navigation. While LightTouch technology is superb, the controls are too sensitive. As we said earlier, you only need to slide your finger or tap gently to navigate, and that’s a hassle itself. The quick navigation system is all well and good when you are holding the device, but if you put it in your pocket or accidentally touch the top of the unit, it will function normally.

The only way to reduce sensitivity is to lock the keypad with the hold slider. Unless you like to forward and backward often, this setting should come in handy.
