Page 2 of 2 Continued: Performance wise, we had no issues whatsoever. Even though Samsung specifies the battery life to be around 42 hours, we tested it close to 40 hours, but that’s to be expected considering that we were navigating through the menus with the backlight on (which takes quite a hit on battery life) during battery level tests. We are certain Samsung would come close to meeting its specifications in a standard usage environment. But despite that, 40 hours are still not bad. The audio quality was fairly impressive with all genres that we tested; in fact, you could really differentiate between the quality with/without preset equalizer options and Samsung’s WOW technology. The volume levels were quite wonderful, but you had to drop them down a notch in order to stay completely static free. The music managing software is a decent application with basic options; however, the redundancy from window to another was unnecessary and confusing. It’s more or less a formality that Samsung had to do in order to complete the package. The same thing applies to the packaged earphones. Unsurprisingly, they weren’t nearly as impressive as we would’ve liked them to be, but that’s nothing new. Companies have a tendency to bundle an economic pair of earphones and focus on the actual product; it’s not too modest per say, but they could certainly improve upon them. If you are an audiophile and would seriously like to enjoy the audio quality, a separate pair of earphones is recommended. The interesting aspect about the price is that during a period of a few weeks, the prices have fallen significantly to even more affordable level. The MT6V, which was around $89.99 when we first evaluated it, is now retailing for $79.99 at certain retail stores; this depicts a price drop of 12.5 percent. The MT6X, however, has now switched position with its counterpart and costs $89.99. Needless to say, this is a great price for a player of this magnitude. In simpler terms, if you are in the market for a portable audio player, be sure to check out Samsung’s YP-MT6V (256MB) or YP-MT6X (512MB).
