(Review) - Now that a lot of PC enthusiasts are adopting the Micro ATX design for a HTPC, companies are developing interesting cases that provide just enough space to comfortably squeeze all components with a sleek design to match the case with the rest of the home entertainment setup. Take the NSK2400, for instance.
The case looks downright gorgeous with its all steel construction and sturdy balance with rubber feet. Unlike the full ATX tower cases, the NSK2400 is designed to sit horizontally, possibly with the display at the top. This will definitely conserve a lot space, which we like. Another thing that’s positively noticeable is the amount of airflow vents. Antec has made sure that despite that integrated 2x 120mm fans, the case in general stays considerably cool to keep the temperature under control. In addition to the 2x fans, you can select up to three speed modes to work with. Let’s say you are gaming, you can turn the fans to their fullest capacity and let them run. On the other hand, however, if you are watching a movie, you can turn them down similarly. It doesn’t get any better than that.
The front of the NSK2400 is silver and goes well with the otherwise black exterior. The front also presents two USB ports, a few activity LED lights and the power switch. Unfortunately, though, the 2x drive bays don’t come with bay covers. As a result, if you happen to have a white drive, the presentation isn’t going to look too professional. That’s a bummer for a case that looks so impressive.
The inside of the case is very spacious with an included 380W PSU that should work fine as long as you don’t put too much load on it. Also, we feel the PSU fan could be a little quieter. In our testing, we noticed the annoying hum sound on our desk. The device also includes the necessary cable management hooks, which we are delighted to see. A lot of companies don’t include them in their cases, even though they have become more or less a necessity, especially in HTPC-ready cases. More importantly, however, the NSK2400 has a stupendous thermal flow that’s going to keep the components well within their normal temperature range.
All in all, Antec has released a remarkable case that deserves nothing but praise. And for the price of $99.99, this is a steal. If you are looking for a Micro ATX case for your HTPC, look no further than the Antec NSK2400. Excellent job, Antec!
