Page 2 of 4 Product Analysis: Externally, OCZ’s GameXStream power supply is fairly standard. It might be too standard for our taste. There’s nothing special about the external design, which isn’t exactly encouraging considering the company’s impressive track record with ModStream and PowerStream power supplies that we evaluated earlier. PowerStream was perhaps the most modern looking unit in OCZ’s product line. Although ModStream followed the same trend of glossy looking exterior, the dull color was disappointing. That said, we believe the reason OCZ downgraded the looks of the unit was to offer a competitive price to consumers. GameXStream is integrated with a 120mm blue LED fan with a side grill to efficiently cool the power supply. Internally, all components are well placed to ensure maximum thermal dissipation in an efficient manner with as little noise as possible. As is the case with all OCZ power supplies, there are abundant connectors for SATA drives and other peripherals. Most importantly, however, there is something striking that we don’t normally see on mainstream power supplies – dual CPU connectors for heatsink/fan combinations. The general notion with GameXStream is to release a competitive product with solid performance (due to better architecture) than a gadget-like device. Granted OCZ is exceptional in taking care of aesthetics and performance at the same time, the company is far more focused on delivering a competitively priced power supply than something like PowerStream, where it’s difficult to ignore the striking exterior.
