OCZ has released an admirable power supply. GameXStream is powerful, architecturally sound, quiet, stable and reliable. Although OCZ disappointed us earlier with the exterior, it’s our pleasure to say OCZ has delivered on its promise, which was to release a competitively priced, extreme PSU.

With that said, there are few points that we would like to discuss. We know OCZ was after a robust solution, but not having a modular design is taking a step backwards. As more and more power supplies adopt the new design, it becomes essential for companies, such as OCZ, to come up with ways to stay current, while offering reasonably priced components. It’s unacceptable for companies to go back in standards/trends just so they can control costs.

The same applies to overall product presentation.

For an average price of $160.00, GameXStream 700W is still on the steep side, and thus we recommend you wait for the price to dip for a while before opting for this high-wattage power supply if you are not satisfied with the price now. Another question you may want to ask yourself is: Do I really need a 700W power supply?

If we were to make an assumption, OCZ has honestly released the GameXStream 700W and 800W units to future-proof users. Think about it. We have had SLI and Crossfire systems on the market for a while now, and we haven’t yet found 500W power supplies to be incapable of managing power management requirements in most systems. These power supplies are designed for enthusiasts who are on the extreme side of things. In addition, with Quad-GPUs on their way, maybe 700W PSUs will come in handy then. Until that time, high-wattage units are overkill.

If you are willing to ignore the somewhat steep price and the fact that you may not actually need a 700W unit, OCZ’s GameXStream is a quality PSU that compliments OCZ’s R&D very well.
