Page 3 of 4 Product Analysis:
The XTunner is a rather attractive fan controller with its "X" shaped window and a light color theme. There are six LED lights on the fan controller; each LED light indicate a certain speed. For example, the first two blue LED lights represent the "Silent Mode", the second two green LED lights represent the "Balance Mode", while the last two red LED lights represent the "Full Speed Mode". This is a good way to see what speed setting the fans are operating at. To the right of the LED lights, you will find a wide-angle receiver. The remote control is based on Thermaltake's "TRT" or Thermaltake Remote Technology; the wide-angle receiver is a part of this patented technology. Finally, the right side of the product consists of the power LED light, color-coded red. You will also notice a hook on the fan controller and even though Thermaltake doesn't specify what the hook is for, we are assuming it will be used to hang the keychain for safe keeping. There is another thing that we found to be lacking in the XTunner fan controller - the speed control knobs on the controller itself. This means that you will have to keep track of the wireless remote controller in order to change the settings. Should you lose the remote controller, you will either have to uninstall the XTunner or you will be faced with the full speed fan option, which reduces the purpose of having a fan controller in the first place. Another thing we noticed on our evaluation unit were the scratches. We have no idea why we are receiving so many products from Thermaltake with significant amount of scratches on them, but we think the main culprit is the delicate packaging. The scratches on the XTunner will hardly be noticed, but they are something to point out. Thermaltake must make sure that their products are properly reaching the consumers in a scratchless position.
The circuit board of the XTunner fan controller contains the power connector (located on the left side) and four 3-pin fan connectors (located on the right side). Also keep in mind that you can connect your CPU heatsink with the XTunner as well, however, it is not such a good idea if you constantly like to increase and decrease the speed of your system fans as it will also have an impact on the heatsink.
