Finally, after reporting extensively on a lot of different areas, we are at the end of our CES 2005 Special Reports series. In our last installment, we will discuss quick tidbits that we received while on the show floor. None of the information presented in this article could attain its own spot, as there weren’t significant details presented to us during our meetings. Without further ado, let’s get started… Whitebox Notebooks: MSI, along with others, had their Whitebox notebooks on display at the show floor. Manufacturers seemed quite excited about the future of these products and informed that 2005 is going to be innovative and successful for the aforementioned notebook computers. Users will now have a choice to upgrade their portable machines, as they deem necessary. Portable Printers: Do you remember the mini, portable printers that you can connect separately and print pictures instantly? Well, you are going to see improvement in those devices in the future. While we couldn’t get a general time frame, HP suggested that we might see on-board storage and wireless capabilities on the mini printers. The reason for such speculation is the market transition to wireless connectivity functionalities and more on-board storage. According to HP, both of these options make perfect sense and should be welcomed by consumers when they enter the market. The only issue with wireless connectivity is battery life. HP still has a lot to research and development to do before they can bring their ideas to life. While both of the ideas seem fairly well speculated, don’t get your hopes too high because these two features may take some time. Mini-PCs: Mini-PCs from Shuttle, MSI and the like will see designated models based on different chipset variations, but other than that don’t expect too much innovation, expect in maybe thermal and noise categories. You can probably expect to see price drops, but for the most part, this market segment will remain untouched. According to manufacturers, the market for such PCs is going strong and will continue to grow on a rapid pace in 2005 as well. With the final tidbits to an end, we conclude our coverage of the Consumer Electronics Show 2005. We sincerely hope that we were able to provide you some insight on the future of computing industry, as a whole, in our special reports.
