When Corsair first brought its Pro series of memory to the market, it grabbed quite a bit of attention from the enthusiast community. After all, Corsair was the first to bring the "LED lights on memory" idea to reality. Although the company charged a premium solely for the LED lights, there was at least something in the market for the exclusive user who was looking to make their computer an extra special system with LED lights on possibly every component. Not surprisingly, the performance between Corsair’s Pro and regular XMS series was identical, saving those who were not interested in the LED idea. Expensive or not, it was a novel idea that put Corsair one step ahead of the rest. When everyone thought that nothing new could happen to DDR series, Corsair is back with yet another LED idea. And this time, it may be more useful than its previous idea that merely monitored the memory activity rate. With Corsair’s XPERT series, you can monitor the memory’s voltage settings, temperature settings and the frequency settings. Not only will it add to the uniqueness factor, but it may also come in handy for the ultimate overclocker who is looking to glance over the standard memory settings in a heartbeat. Not only that, but you can also program the modules to display practically any string of text you want. While this pertains to mainly the hardware aspects of the modules, Corsair has also included a corresponding software utility, which will let you alter different settings and reflect the changes instantly on the modules themselves. Surely, the Corsair XPERT series is looking attractive feature wise, but how will it hold up in price? Since Corsair has only changed the outer shell of the modules by keeping the same memory chips underneath, we will skip the performance numbers in this evaluation. If you are interested in seeing how PC3200XL low-latency modules stack up against it competition, please read our initial review of the modules here. We will limit ourselves to covering just the modules and the software in this evaluation. And of course, we will tie all lose ends during our final words session. Please also understand that we have included numerous shots of the modules to provide you with the best idea of how XPERT series work and look under operation. Without further ado, let’s begin…
