Product Analysis:

As stated earlier, the memory modules themselves are the same PC3200XL low-latency modules rated to operate at 2-2-2-5 timings. Like their predecessors, the XPERT series also feature the same Samsung TCCDs to achieve such low latencies. When you compare the regular XMS series to their Pro version and now to their XPERT edition, the physical differences are quite subtle. Over the different editions, Corsair seems to have increased the overall weight and size of the memory modules, as you can see in the image above. Since the modules had to be designed with the connectors at the top, you will find excess PCB slightly above the heatspreader. The modules are in fact rather appealing physically and certainly offer the incentive for the price.

The LED lights are powered via a 34-pin connector. Each strip contains two connectors even though only a single connector is needed for the designated operation. Corsair, thankfully, has included two connectors on a single connector to fit the modules on either side. This will come in handy for various dual channel or more than two module specifications.

To top it off, the connectors also light up two Corsair logos on opposite sides along with the activity LEDs and the standard text fields. You must also keep in mind that the outer layer on the connector is mainly a sticky-layer that is kept intact with the connector via an adhesive. Although this shouldn’t pose much of an issue, the black layer can be peeled off if handled roughly.

The top of the module can be connected to the connector with the 34 pins. Just like a microprocessor, these pins are fragile and should be carefully inserted into the slots.
