(Review) - As I was comparing the BlackBerry and Palm’s Treo last week, I don’t know which one to recommend, quite honestly. There’s no clear winner, and therefore, I have decided to do a quick comparison between the two to better assist you picking the right device.

BlackBerry: As a lot of you know, RIM’s BlackBerry is truly designed for professionals on the go. The online and e-mail services are two of strongest points of the BlackBerry, and it’s no wonder why a lot of companies pick the BlackBerry as their mobile device of choice. In addition to e-mail and web browsing, RIM’s proprietary OS simplifies the entire UI with a clean design and powerful backend. Unfortunately, though, the 8700 series doesn’t support multimedia capabilities. This could be a benefit or a drawback depending on how you look at it.

Palm Treo: Palm, known for its Treo and the Palm OS brands, is another excellent smartphone that a lot of professionals use as well. After all, smartphones are designed to be compact mobile peripherals. Unlike the 8700, the Treo 700p, an entry-level model, does support multimedia features with excellent e-mail and web browsing capabilities as well. The UI isn’t as sleek as the BlackBerry, in my opinion, but it’s clean enough. Not to mention, the stylus is a better alternative sometimes than scrolling through long webpages with the 8700 and its scroll wheel.

Now, with the key differences out of the way, which one should you opt for? If you are the type of person who likes to keep things basic, yet robust, I say stick with the BlackBerry. But if you like to spice up things a bit with multimedia capabilities, the 700p may be the better option of the two. Both devices are robust and cost the same as well, and thus, at the end of the day, it really boils down to the multimedia functionality. You can get the 8700g for T-Mobile for $0.00 with the signed contract, and the Palm Treo 700p for $244.99; again, with the signed contract.
