(Review) - HP’s latest Inkjet 1000 affordable printer prints at $0.034 per print, which makes it one of the most affordable enterprise level printers in HP’s product line. According to HP, the Inkjet 1000 is a main competitor to laser printers with expensive ink toners. Although the prints are rather inexpensive, it’s important to note the usage factor. If a significantly large organization were to purchase the Inkjet 1000, the cartridges would undoubtedly run low after a couple of weeks, if not in a few days. However, if it were a small startup company with a handful of employees and very limited print demand, this particular model would work well.

Here’s what we had to say about HP’s Business Inkjet 1000 in our initial review: "The most impressive part here, apart from the sheer number of pages printed, was that the printer did not get stuck once during the entire print run. This might’ve been a fluke, but we don’t think so. The printer looks sturdy and solid and now we know it has the performance to match it.

Note that these 440 pages were from the 28ml starter tanks bundled by HP, but if you were to purchase the 69ml black cartridges for $34.00 (direct from HP), you will be able to do a little over 1000 pages, which works out to be roughly $0.034 per page. While this may be higher than what HP claims, we think this is extremely reasonable.

Since we also used the normal mode, we suspect the yields to be much higher with a draft mode (or default mode), and possibly even closer to what HP claims.

Incidentally, we noticed a small quirk in our tests. Even though we had specifically set the printer to exclusively use the black ink cartridge, the printer automatically switched to making black using the C.M.Y cartridges once the original black cartridge ran out. We noticed this only because we were sitting glued to the monitor with the ink tank levels displayed onscreen, so if you want to conserve color cartridges, be careful.

The quirk aside, frankly, we are very impressed with HP’s Inkjet 1000 printer. If you want an economical and extremely fast inkjet printer (assuming you print mostly black and white documents instead of graphic intensive work), we wholeheartedly recommend this printer to anyone who’s in the market for a device that costs $149.99 on average."
