Kensington SlimBlade Media Mouse Review

(Review) - When we first started evaluating Kensington products a few years ago, their products were very simple in design. Almost to the point of being considered last generation. In other words, they weren’t sexy at all. However, over the years, the company has worked on its designs a bit more to focus on the attraction value of its products. They are still simple, but they are drop dead gorgeous. Talk about a complete turnaround in its designs.

The SlimBlade media mouse is your regular mobile wireless mouse with 2.4GHz wireless strength with up to 30ft. in range. It has a glossy black exterior with a scroll wheel (360-degree scrolling) and left/right buttons on the top. So far so good. Everything is fairly standard.

Flip the mouse upside down and that’s where you’ll find the media navigation controls: play/pause, volume and track controls. The buttons are well integrated on the underside that they don’t interfere with the smooth gliding of the device. Yet, they are easy to work with at night.

The battery life is set to last for approximately six months, and the battery life indicator lights green if the battery is good, or red if it needs a replacement. Also, the mouse automatically goes to sleep to further conserve battery life with your laptop. How brilliant is that!

Overall, the performance was good. Ergonomics are similar to other notebook mice, which means it’s not as comfortable as its desktop counterpart, but it’ll do. Once you get used to it, it’ll be fine. The 1,000-dpi laser optical sensor was precise and accurate and will do just fine. Signal strength was excellent as well, and we had no issues connecting and reconnecting the mouse after it went to sleep or when we had to remove the USB connector to pack our notebook.

For $43.00, Kensington’s SlimBlade media mouse is a great buy that’s effective with its simplicity to design and its newfound attractiveness.
