(News Report) - Planon Systems Solutions, Inc. is readying the world’s smallest full-page color scanner for launch early next year. The DocuPen RC800 will be an upgrade from the RC7xx series that currently holds that record. Planon’s DocuPen series was also featured in the Guinness Book of World Records for its small size and portability.

According to Planon, the RC800 will be the same size as a standard pen and has the capability to scan a full page of text or color in four seconds. The device stores up to 100 pages with its 2MB of onboard storage capacity, weighs 2-ounces and measures 8-inches in length. Planon’s RC800 is a rechargeable device (lithium-ion battery) and allows users to charge their scanner while the RC800 is downloading information to the PC via an USB port.

The company also said it will include ScanSoft PaperPort OCR software for managing documents including, but not limited to, format conversion, PDF conversion and a variety of other features.

In contrast, Planon’s R710 Professional, the top of the line model in the company’s product line currently, holds the same functionalities, but measures 8.5-inches in length, stores up to 200 pages in memory, and takes approximately 4 to 8 seconds for a full text or color page scan.

Technical and pricing information on the RC800 was not available at the time of publication. Planon’s RC800 full-page color scanner is slated for launch at the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada early January 2006.
