(Preview) Mans need for storage is insatiable. We initially thought that we could make do in a few kilobytes; however, we then moved up to megabytes, gigabytes and now hundreds of gigabytes. Emphasizing this trend is the new drive series from Seagate, the 7200.9. Seagate started out with its 7200.7 and 7200.8 drives and has now launched the latest addition to the family, the 7200.9 range encompassing drives from mere 40GB to a whopping 500GB of onboard capacity. The drives obviously correspond to the latest standards (SATA 2.5) set by the SATA SIG. Among other things, the new SATA standard supports 3Gb/s of data transfer speeds and eSATA, a way to connect hard drives externally.
