(Insider Report) - Did you notice the recent surge in 2GB dual-channel memory kit reviews? Ever wonder why memory makers are promoting 2GB memory kits now, especially with DDR. According to the information we received, yesterday was perhaps one of the most important days in the PC gaming industry, as the year’s four most anticipated titles made their way to retail shelves: Age of Empires 3, Call of Duty 2, F.E.A.R and Quake 4. Since all four titles (in addition to the ones that are scheduled to launch later this year or in the future) support intensive maps and textures, the era of 1GB of system memory for gaming is starting to become obsolete, hence the sudden surge in 2GB memory kit promotions. Memory makers realize this and in return, are starting to take advantage of title launch dates. For the sole purpose of getting users to upgrade, many memory makers picked the best timeframe for such marketing festivities. The memory manufacturers we talked to confirmed that 2GB would be the sweet spot for performance seekers in the near future, as memory intensive game titles and Microsoft’s Windows Vista roll out next year. The theme for today is to start thinking about upgrades, especially with system memory, and be prepared to upgrade the system memory from 1GB to 2GB. Maybe not now, but most certainly by the end of next year… What this translates to for motherboard vendors and memory makers is to make sure the modules are fully optimized for the best overall performance in terms of both stock performance and overclocked configurations.
