As we reported earlier this year from the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, many motherboard makers said the outlook on Intel’s 915/925 series of chipsets wasn’t all that impressive. They said Intel’s 865/875 boards were selling like "hot cakes" while sales were fairly poor with its current generation of chipsets. Now, nearly four months after that report motherboard makers are still experiencing unimpressive sales figures. Although the sales are picking up as the boards are coming down in prices, they are still not up to a point that manufacturers can call them a success. According to a recent confirmation by our sources, Intel is forcing motherboard makers to purchase its 915/925 chipsets if they want to continue to purchase the company’s 865/875 where the revenue stream is fairly impressive even today. The sources reported that manufacturers are stuck in the middle where they must comply with Intel or risk losing a good bit of business on the Intel platform. However, sources remained hopeful and stated that sales are starting to pick up as PCI Express and DDR2 further saturates the market.
