When PQI first appeared with its aggressive DDR memory modules, everyone wondered if the company could compete against tier-one memory makers. Not only were we interested in its performance, but also the overall price. Since Corsair, Kingston and OCZ hold a fair share of market, recently entering OEMs with retail products had to deliver excellent performance at a low price. Our speculations were put to rest when evaluations started appearing on various online publications, and to our surprise PQI had priced its low-latency modules reasonably while still delivering excellent performance. That marked the beginning of PQI as one of the serious contenders of retail memory market, and it gave enthusiasts another choice in the already competitive industry. Taking the same approach, PQI is planning on introducing its low-latency DDR2 memory at Computex this year. According to an insider, PQI will offer two variations of the same product. The first one will be the regular DDR2 low-latency modules to please the general enthusiast population. The second product that PQI is set to announce at Computex is a Limited Edition DDR2 Turbo memory, which will be something for the high-end overclockers that want to gain every last bit of performance out of their systems. We are unsure if this will be a separate product from what’s mentioned above, but that was the only information we had available at the time. The source additionally revealed that PQI is currently working on DDR2 memory at speeds upwards of 1000MHz, which will take the company to one of the top spots in the enthusiast segment. Whether PQI will be ready to showcase this particular memory at Computex is not clear, but according to the insider, PQI will have DDR2 Turbo operating at more than 1000MHz at stock settings fairly soon. The insider did not reveal further details, but the emphasize was being put on PQI’s breakthrough in its upcoming DDR2 products. The insider revealed that PQI will be ahead of its competition with its upcoming products, as the company’s R&D team has been working on higher speeds at aggressive timings. The source even went on to call this "breakthrough" a "giant leap" during our conversation. Since further details were not revealed at the time, it’s difficult to predict what this breakthrough might be. It could merely be a marketing strategy or something useful on PQI’s part. The products are expected to immediately (or soon after Computex) appear on retail shelves. Pricing information was not disclosed either.
