(Insider Series) - While we don’t know the exact schedule and launch dates for NVIDIA’s newest core, we have been able to find out a couple of interesting things. Obviously, we couldn’t get an official confirmation from NVIDIA, but the following points are interesting enough to share.

1. It is running behind schedule. Apparently, NVIDIA has missed their targeted date for taping out the processor. A few manufacturers said they had been given feelers that the card might not make it to them as per the schedule.

2. The other thing we heard is that the G80 is going to be mostly G70/G71 with DirectX 10.0 stapled on. Meaning, that since the architecture is basically G70, it has not been built from the ground up, keeping DX10 in mind.

The delay could be due to the fact that NVIDIA is redoing the chip design. If that’s true, then it could imply that ATI will beat NVIDIA to the market. Otherwise, from what we hear, the G80 is supposed to be launched before the R600 and is expected to be priced lower.
