(Special Report) - While the memory industry is fairly dull in 2006, the future of DDR2 appears to be bright, especially now that AMD is soon expected to support it with its upcoming M2 socket.

According to memory makers, DDR2 is steadily growing and the transition from DDR to DDR2 is rather smooth as well, but in order for DDR2 to really take off, at least in the enthusiast market, AMD would have to be a key supporter. Thankfully, AMD is expected to debut its M2 socket in the first half of 2006, therefore, memory manufacturers are indeed excited about DDR2 taking off towards the end of the year. This also means that the enthusiast community can look forward to price drops towards the end of the year.
