Despite Google doing great with their Android platform on various mobile phones, it feels like any tablet efforts with Android, have been non-existent. Now I think it’s possible that this is by design and shouldn’t be dismissed. Clearly Google is focused on Chrome OS for their tablet endeavors.

According to Download Squad, Verizon will be offering up a Chrome OS tablet of their very own, come this November. The tablet itself is being designed and built by HTC, so it should be interesting to see how it all turns out. The big take away is that sources believe that this Chrome OS tablet will be substantially cheaper than the iPad.

Where does the fault fall for a failed product launch? With the Palm Pre, I blame the pointless commercials, lack of feature descriptions and general lack of product focus. So does this also apply to the latest BlackBerry product as well, created by RIM?

CNET points out the brand new BlackBerry Torch, has been setup in flames due to a lackluster reception by the masses. So while RIM refuses to admit defeat as you can now already find the phone at a discount, it seems clear that this could serve as the final nail in RIM’s economic coffin.

Without question, the Apple iPad has in many respects changed the way we look at computers and other portable computing devices. Even the iPhone hasn’t touched on the new areas being explored with the larger iPad. So how would one that is smaller, do for Apple fans?

PCWorld reports that Apple is looking to launch a smaller 7-inch iPad just in time for Christmas. Dubbed as the iPad 2, this smaller tablet computer is likely to appeal to those looking for iPad functionality with less size in hand.

With the success of the various Droid based phones from the Motorola Droid to the Droid 2, it is hardly a surprise to see Verizon wanting to take advantage of yet another Motorola success story.

BoyGeniusReport reports Verizon may be getting ready to offer up what is known to be the Motorola Droid Pro. The phone said to boast a 4″ display, 1.3GHz CPU, global roaming capability.

It’s fair to point out that no new endeavor is pushed forth without its fair share of bumpy starts. But one might think that with all of the successes had by Apple, we’d see more stability with the launch of Apple’s entrance into the mobile advertising space. Apparently not.

As outlined by the WSJ, Apple’s new iAd program hasn’t been completely free of issues or problems. Slow to roll out, few real partners of note and at its worst, delays. Now I know that there are many out there who are in no hurry to see iAd become a roaring success. Google obviously being among them. But they say competition is good. So long as Apple can get their iAd program off to a stronger start in the months to come, then maybe Apple going slowly now is not such a bad thing after all.

Seems like BlackBerry cannot catch a break lately. From having their backsides handed to them by Apple and Google down to having various security issues cropping up. Now, another hurdle BlackBerry’s RIM must overcome.

Reuters reports that RIM is about to have BlackBerry interruptions in India unless RIM decides to address a growing concerns India has over data access being made available to the government. India feels that RIM will make the needed changes and that any interruptions will be avoided. Clearly, RIM has some big decisions to make.

There can be little question that Dell has managed to cowboy up lately with the release of their Dell Streak. Not only are they totally ignoring the phone/tablet hoopla by coming in with something completely new, it paves the way forward for others out there looking to save face in the midst of the iOS wars erupting out there.

CrunchGear reminds us that just because Apple has taken center stage, doesn’t mean that other players cannot make a name for themselves in this new world of mobile operating systems. Even better, is the part where the article points out how Windows CE could learn from Dell’s example with Android on the Streak.  Dell hit the nail on the head in realizing they would be better of redefining the space with something different, rather than trying to compete directly with Apple.

Well it was fun while it lasted. The once famed Apple TV, the media device that never really found a strong enough niche to amount to the status of something beyond what Apple CEO once called a “Hobbyist device” is about to undergo a major shift in both focus and content.

According to Engadget, it looks like we will be seeing good and bad changes made to the device formally known as Apple TV. On the plus side, a better name change by adding the infamous “i” in from of the world TV. Secondly, there will be iPad widget functionality coming to this little box as well. The downside of course is that you are going to lose 1080p resolution, in exchange for Roku/Netflix like streaming functionality.

There can be no question that the Amazon Kindle has been a tremendous success. But does it possess the ability to hold its ground in the long term? That is the big question.

According to the NYTimes, Amazon is looking to hire hardware engineers, among other related positions. Clearly this indicates that we’ll be seeing the next generation of the Amazon Kindle just around the corner or perhaps something new entirely.

What with the huge success that was the Motorola Droid, it only seems natural that we have Droid based devices surpassing the likes of the Droid and the casual Droid 2.

According to Engadget, the Droid 2 has been kicked off with a special edition phone that has been the substance of many rumors. It’s the R2-D2 Droid 2, rocking a release of Android 2.2 Froyo. With Flash Player 10.1 and a revised QWERTY keyboard, it’s actually a pretty sweet setup. If you’re willing to get into a contract with Verizon, you can land this phone for $200.
