There’s apparently a market for players that lack features and are ridiculously low-priced. The Ramos V10 digital media player has 256MB of storage, a 1.3” TFT display, SRS WOW sound enhancement, line-in recording and USB connectivity. The V10 will last approximately 12 hours per battery charge and supports MP3, WMA and OGG audio formats.

Personally, I don’t think there’s a market for considerably affordable MP3 players, at least not in the North American or European markets. There are exceptions to every rule, but for the most part, unknown brands just can’t exist in North American or European-like competitive markets. People like to associate themselves with a brand (read: quality). Even if they don’t understand anything about technology, if it’s from Sony or Dell, they know they can trust the company. After all, neither of these companies would be in business if they made shoddy products. It’s a basic principal that almost everyone understands.

Now in Asia, Ramos might be successful. Many consumers unfortunately don’t have the financial means to purchase an iPod or the latest and greatest. However, considering their unflawed low for technology, they must have the new, trendy gadgets. It’s part of their culture. Maybe, just maybe Ramos can carve a niche for their products. Then again, you have to wonder how many local companies are working on releasing iPod clones for Ramos to even justify doing business in a market that’s not even legally competitive.
