Buffalo iPod Mouse -
Thursday, 07 December 2006

If you have been reading gadget weblogs or CE publications (whether online or offline), you have probably seen some of the wackiest gadgets in the market. But I think this one sets a new standard. All of us know how crazy companies are for Apple’s iPod, since they can’t seem to stop replicating it. Buffalo here thinks it will sell a ton of mice if they look like the freakin’ iPod Nano. Not only does the device look amazingly cheap, but it forces you to learn a non-conventional way of using a mouse. It’s USB compatible, weighs 30g, supports Mac/PC platforms and offers an 800dpi optical resolution. Imagine plugging that thing into your Mac. Yeah, it kills me too just thinking about the hideous combination. There’s no word on availability, and frankly, I couldn’t care less. USB Robo-Pup Webcam -

If you aren’t tired of seeing the robotic dogs in every electronics store yet, then maybe this webcam is for you. The Robo-Pup (it’s not a dog, mind you) webcam is a robotic pup with a webcam built-in. It doesn’t do any tricks, but you can move its legs around for a number of different functions. The camera lens is adjustable, and packs a 350k pixel sensor, 640x480 resolution, automatic/manual brightness control, manual/auto white balance control, green LED indicator and a whole slew of things. I seriously doubt the quality is going to jaw-dropping, but for $22.50, it may make a cute (how dare I say that?) and worthless gag gift. It’s available immediately. Samsung is all excited about its 1-millionth YP-Z5 sale, and since it has nothing better to do, it’s going to dip 10 of YP-Z5’s in 18K gold and auction them off. The device will also have a signature from the UI guru himself, Paul Mercer. Mercer, as you may remember, designed the UI for the world renowned iPod and later left to join Samsung and work on its YP series. Each device will be packed in gold leafed boxes and cost about $1,040, which, honestly, isn’t all too expensive. Read - Subscribe to CoolTechZone.com's Techblog RSS Feed  {moscomment}

Sony to Copy iPod/iTunes Combo -
Wednesday, 06 December 2006

|
Sony is all over the news these days. In today’s edition, Sony is working on an iPod/iTunes combo of its own to better challenge the iPod. Not that it’s going to happen, but hey, props to them for trying. Obviously, if it’s going to replicate the iPod/iTunes infrastructure, it would also have to compete against Microsoft’s newly released Zune and the Zune Marketplace. Hmm, so let’s put this into perspective. Sony against Apple and Microsoft in the digital music space, take a wild guess and tell me Sony’s chance of success here. But, yes, there’s a but, Sony is working on a new music player (half of the iPod/iTunes combo) that promises to be fairly laxed on DRM. Hallelujah! I could just kiss Sony. You know what, good luck to Sony in competing against Apple and Microsoft. Ya know, Sony, I never was really mad at you. You’ve always been a favorite company of mine. Now, please go, and release that DRM-less music player. I promise to wait outside BestBuy for three nights to get a hold of one. With that said, don’t expect the iPod/iTunes, Zune/Zune Marketplace killer anytime soon. If everything goes according to plan, Sony should have it out by December 2007. We still have a year to go before anything happens. Read - Subscribe to CoolTechZone.com's Techblog RSS Feed  {moscomment}

Now this is what I call innovation – worthwhile innovation – innovation to spend the R&D money on – you get the point. The smart people at Panasonic have released the world’s thinnest speaker that measures a mere 1.5mm in thickness. This is a size reduction of 40 percent from the previous speaker that measured at 2.5mm. Despite the small size, according to Panasonic, there are no audio quality compromises made to the PED (Panasonic Electronic Device). The world’s smallest speaker should go into production in May 2007. Read - Subscribe to CoolTechZone.com's Techblog RSS Feed  {moscomment}
