There’s apparently a market for players that lack features and are ridiculously low-priced. The Ramos V10 digital media player has 256MB of storage, a 1.3” TFT display, SRS WOW sound enhancement, line-in recording and USB connectivity. The V10 will last approximately 12 hours per battery charge and supports MP3, WMA and OGG audio formats. Personally, I don’t think there’s a market for considerably affordable MP3 players, at least not in the North American or European markets. There are exceptions to every rule, but for the most part, unknown brands just can’t exist in North American or European-like competitive markets. People like to associate themselves with a brand (read: quality). Even if they don’t understand anything about technology, if it’s from Sony or Dell, they know they can trust the company. After all, neither of these companies would be in business if they made shoddy products. It’s a basic principal that almost everyone understands. Now in Asia, Ramos might be successful. Many consumers unfortunately don’t have the financial means to purchase an iPod or the latest and greatest. However, considering their unflawed low for technology, they must have the new, trendy gadgets. It’s part of their culture. Maybe, just maybe Ramos can carve a niche for their products. Then again, you have to wonder how many local companies are working on releasing iPod clones for Ramos to even justify doing business in a market that’s not even legally competitive. Archos XS104 Debuts -

Archos, a considerably well known name in portable audio players, has released its XS104 MP3 player to the masses. The XS104 is available in 4GB capacity, has a 1.5”, 262k color display, support for MP3, WMA and WAV audio formats, weighs 80g and measures 91x43x14mm. If there’s anyone who understands how to be unique, it’s Archos. At least that’s what I feel about the company. While Sony, Creative and others focus on increasing their market share to remain in business, Archos is focused on delivering quality players (not that others aren’t quality driven). If anything, Archos is more of a niche player that knows it can’t beat the top companies in the world and might as well focus on quality to create a niche that will benefit them in the long run. Of course, Archos isn’t as well known in the North American market as it might be in Asia, so my assumptions could be misplaced. The XS104 is available immediately for an average price of $140. - Subscribe to CoolTechZone.com's Techblog RSS Feed  {moscomment}

Here’s another iPod accessory that will surely please you. The Belkin TuneStage for iPod Nano is “a device that allows you to play the music from your iPod Nano through your home stereo wirelessly via Bluetooth technology. With a transmitter connected to your iPod Nano and a receiver wired to your system, TuneStage offers reliable, high-quality sound without the clutter of cables. Wirelessly connected through TuneStage, your iPod Nano becomes the ultimate remote, giving you full control of your music.” As I’ve said earlier, I’m getting tired of all these iPod exclusive accessories. It’s amazing how some people will spend $299 on an iPod and later spend thousands of dollars on iPod accessories. Maybe I wouldn’t mind so much if companies were making universal accessories that would be compatible with a series of players from a variety of manufacturers, but unfortunately, that’s not the case. It would be interesting to see what happens when the iPod bubble bursts. Belkin is expected to launch TuneStage sometime in July for $179.99. Soon after the North American launch, Asian, European and Australian markets will follow shortly. - Subscribe to CoolTechZone.com's Techblog RSS Feed  {moscomment}

VoodooPC, makers of the high-end gaming PCs, has released a new gaming notebook, the ENVY u:734, to users worldwide. The u:734 features a 17” display with 1900x1200 resolution, Intel Core Duo microprocessor (your choice of T2400, T2500 and T2600), 2GB of DDR2 memory, NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GTX graphics adapter, an 8x DVD Writer and up to 160GB of hard drive space. In addition, the u:734 is also packed with a 4-in-1 media reader, GbE, 802.11a/b/g wireless standards, Bluetooth capability and an integrated webcam. Unfortunately, VoodooPC’s new notebook weighs ~8.4lbs. While the weight is discouraging, it’s important to note that many desktop replacement notebooks weigh considerably more than ~8.4lbs. When you look at it this way, ENVY u:734 may very well be one of the lightest desktop replacement notebooks on the market. VoodooPC ENVY u:734 17” gaming notebook is expected to retail starting $3,800. The company will start taking orders for a customizable notebook starting June 1st. - Subscribe to CoolTechZone.com's Techblog RSS Feed  {moscomment}

At CES this year, companies said the next step with flash drives was to increase their capacities to 4GB and 8GB and offer additional applications to make them a useful accessory rather than a mundane storage device. Buffalo jumped the high capacity bandwagon and has unveiled an 8GB flash drive. Unfortunately, there aren’t very many details available on the device, but the exterior of the device isn’t too exciting (read: durable). Buffalo’s 8GB USB flash drive is expected to be available at the end of June for an unknown price. - Subscribe to CoolTechZone.com's Techblog RSS Feed  {moscomment}
