Well, here goes something. After Dell’s acquisition of Alienware, HP has effectively acquired VoodooPC in hopes of entering the high-end gaming, enthusiast market. This goes to show how mainstream OEMs are taking the enthusiast market seriously.

VoodooPC will continue to operate out of its Calgary, Alberta, Canada headquarters and act as an independent division of its parent company, similar to the Dell + Alienware deal.

Also with this deal, HP will create a separate business unit within its Personal Systems Unit Group focused on the gaming industry. Rahul Sood, currently VoodooPC’s CTO, will become Chief Technologist of the new division, while Ravi Sood, CEO of VoodooPC, will become Director of Strategy for the unit. Both executives will report to Phil McKinney, the GM of the gaming business unit.

According to [Rahul] Sood, the discussions with HP were initiated as early as January 2005, but due to uncontrolled circumstances, it has taken this long to complete the acquisition.

The acquisition will complete later this year in November. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

If you regularly attend tradeshows or meet a lot of professionals, such as yourself, then handing out business cards can take a lot out of you, at least that’s how I see things now, thanks to Info Rings.

The concept behind this oh-so-cool device is to automatically share information between two parties that is generally stated on business cards, such as your address, phone number, name, title and company name. All you need to do is shake hands with another person wearing the same ring and your information will be automatically stored in their Info Ring (and vice versa). Then you can quickly run away, sync the information to your PC and see if that person is any good to you.

Oh and for people who like to hop from one person to another just for the sake of networking and gathering as many business cards as possible, you can now cut your interaction-per-person time drastically. What more could you ask for?

Info Rings are still a concept.

There’s nothing sexier than a shiny new Smartphone, some would say, and in this case, we just might agree with that notion.

Nokia today unveiled its N95 Smartphone with a ton of features including a 5-megapixel camera, integrated GPS, 802.11g WiFi, HSDPA, microSD storage, 150MB of internal memory and the remainder of otherwise standard features. The display on the N95 is 2.6-inch QVGA screen that will be a great viewfinder for the camera. The 3.5mm audio jack is also there and be ready to shell out a lot for this phone.

Are you ready for the price yet? Nokia N95 will go on sale for $700. Ouch!

The N95 will start shipping in sometime Q1, 2007. See if you can ask your relatives to delay your gifts by a month or two.

So, it looks like Apple may indeed launch its highly anticipated (as if that’s a surprise) iPhone. According to sources, the iPhone will feature a candy-bar design with a 2.2-inch display, 3-megapixel camera and support for iTunes and iSync. Nothing too earth-shattering at this point, in my opinion, but since the phone is coming from Apple, you can bet on smooth GUI, intuitiveness and an overall great device. Remember that Apple has the magic to make any mundane and otherwise standard device into a winner and industry shaker.

The latest iPhone related news is that Apple has partnered with Cingular for its iPhone, which is on schedule for a launch in January, 2007. Shouldn’t Apple have launched the iPhone in Q4 to benefit from the shopping season later this year?

The report suggests: “Apple's exclusive contract with Cingular is said to be good for the first six months, sources report, meaning other providers will be able to sell the phone in the second-half of 2007. Cingular had an exclusive on the Motorola ROKR—the first phone to feature iTunes—when it launched last year.”

Let’s hope Apple + Cingular partnership is not jinxed and doesn’t fail the iPhone like it did with the Motorola ROKR.

The StormBlue A9+ Bluetooth MP3 player is the next-generation version of music players that we might soon see from Apple, Creative, Sony, SanDisk and others. While there are other players with Bluetooth capabilities, they are not too common yet.

The concept behind Bluetooth integration is to let users wirelessly interact with the device. You could also pair the device with a Bluetooth headset to listen to music, such as the ones from Logitech. And of course, connectivity with cell phones is a given.

In addition to Bluetooth support, you will get 39 hours of battery life for audio and 11 hours of battery life for video playback, built-in clock, built-in stopwatch, support for MPEG1, 2, 2.5, Audio Layer 3, WMA Version 9, OGG and MP3, direct encoding capability, EQ presets, FM recorder, ID3 tag support, JPG photo viewer, rechargeable batteries, text viewer and a host of other options. It will also come in 2GB and 4GB flavors with expandable storage options and a 2.0-inch TFT display with 260k color support.

It’s available immediately for 109 Pounds or ~$207.39, though it’s unclear whether StoremBlue A9+ will make its way to the Western Hemisphere.
