Iomega, a worldwide leader in storage products, announced the company's Dual-Layered DVD burner that is expected to cost around $250.00. The DVD writer will use 12X writing speeds along with an external 2.0 connection.

Iomega plans to release the drive in June of this year, however, the company suspects the media to be available in late 2004. This leads us to believe that many users jumping onto the cutting edge technology will experience high media prices throughout the year.

Dual-Layered media can hold up to twice as much data as the current generation discs. According to CoolTechZone sources, Sony and Philips will also launch their dual-layered DVD writers sometime in June.

Sources reported that price per dual-layered disc to be around $10.00, but not right now due to the limited demand in the market.

Richard Giannini, Iomega's Product Manager, reported the prices to drop to $5.00 per disc later this year when dual-layered media and drives become more popular.

Iomega's upcoming DVD writer will support DVD+R DL, dual-layer format along with DVD+R and DVD+RW at 12X write, 4X rewrite, and 16X read speeds. The drive will also support DVD-R and DVD-RW standards at 8X write, 4X rewrite, and 16X read speeds.

Iomega plans to add Sonic's MyDVD software for video editing, Sonic's Cineplayer for video playback, MusicMatch's Jukebox for audio management, Adobe's Photoshop album, and Iomega's proprietary DVD solutions with Automatic Backup and Hotburn Pro. There will also be a $30.00 rebate on the drive, which Iomega plans to offer till the end of this year.

The company plans to add a slightly bigger, external, dual-layered Super drive in July. This new drive will feature a MPEG-2 capture card for video recording purposes. The product is supposedly easy to use with a $329.00 price tag.
