Fujitsu, one of the top vendors in the storage market, plans to announce the company's 100GB hard disk drive for notebooks later this year. The hard drive will use 25GB platters to result 100GB in storage and the company expects to lead along with Toshiba. Toshiba announced its 100GB hard drive in April of this year.
It is expected that Fujitsu's yet to be released hard drive will not have much gain in performance. The company is likely releasing the hard drive to increase storage levels and to compete with Toshiba who currently holds the record in the storage market.
Fujitsu's upcoming hard drive will be 2.5" in size and will be named Hornet V50, according to a report by PC-Award. The drive will operate at only 4200rpm, much slower than what other manufacturers are producing, 5400rpm. It will, however, carry 8MB cache on-board, which should give a good boost in overall performance ratios.
The information on PC-Award doesn't provide other details of the hard drive, however, the official press release from Fujitsu is expected soon.
