Apple Computer Inc. announced a new line of dual-processor 64-bit Mac computers.

According to Apple, some software applications can run much faster on these systems than a system with Intel's Pentium 4 3.4 Ghz chip. This is due to the fact that the new systems are 64-bit capable while Intel is in a damaging spot with only 32-bit microprocessors.

As always, the company has released three models to suit the majority of buyers. These three models include - 1.8 GHz dual-processor system, 2.0 GHz dual-processor system, and 2.5 GHz dual-processor system.

The prices for these models are - 1.8 GHz - $1,999, 2.0 GHz - $2,499, and 2.5 GHz - $2,999.

The new desktop systems come with Apple's OS X 10.3 version and are mainly targetted towards creative and scientific professionals who can truly utilize the speed of the machine, said Apple.

According to Nasdaq National Stock Market, Apple's shares rose by 1% to $30.64 during the early morning hours.
