Microsoft, maker of Xbox, a gaming console, announced that it has stopped the development for its massive, online, multiplayer game, which was targetted at Japanese audience.

The game was stopped due to the lack of progress. Currently, Microsoft is facing hard competition from Sony globally, especially in Japan.

True Fantasy Live Online, Microsof't online game for Xbox, was expected to debut later this year and was in the works for almost three years. It had the ability to hold thousands of players at one time.

Microsoft will strategize on new role-playing games at this point to compete with Sony in Japan. Compared to Sony, Microsoft's has sold Xbox consoles on a 5-1 ratio. Xbox sales decreased by two-thirds in Japan to 60 million units during the end of year compared to Sony's 2.9 million Playstation 2 units.

Since 2001, Microsoft has sold 15 million units while Sony has sold 70 million units since 2000.

The software giant stated that the sales would've been better if they had better role-playing games to offer to its Japanese audience.

Microsoft is in the works of working with Japanese publishers to ensure the never-ending supply of role-playing games.
