Nokia, world's largest cell phone maker, announced the company's latest N-Gage Gaming Mobile Phone on Wednesday. Now, Nokia informs that the N-Gage Gaming Phone will sell much cheaper than what the company had anticipated earlier due to operator subsidies.
The phone giant reported the N-Gage to be available in Europe, Africa, and Asia Pacific for as low as $60.60 with subsidies. This is a significant price drop on the product especially when Nokia never expected this.
Nokia's spokesperson Damian Stathonikos reported the price to drop to 0 Euros in some markets. The highest, unsubsidized price of the gaming phone is reported as $240.66.
Nokia lost many consumers with the phone's small screen and a rather annoying way of changing games, which requires the user to take out batteries before installing new games.
There were other factors, which caused the gaming phone to fail in the market.
Nokia also couldn't fulfill the demand of the phone, which caused gaps in the phone's portfolio. The N-Gage setback was followed by two profit warnings in 10 days.
The reason for price drops is to gain back the consumer that the company lost throughout last year. The phone giants handsets would be under pressure until its portfolio is more competitive in the market.
